In the spirit of honoring my father’s memory, my family has always dreamed that we would donate any revenue from the sale of Richard Eager to a military charity.

This dream started in 2021 when we established the Colonel Richard Ernest Evans Memorial Fund with the Air Force Aid Society. Three years later that fund is permanently endowed and ready to support educational scholarships for Airmen and Guardian families for generations to come.

The following is an excerpt from AFAS’s latest newsletter, announcing the fund.

We are pleased to introduce the Colonel Richard Ernest Evans Memorial Fund, a permanent, endowed fund at AFAS that will be used to provide educational scholarships every year to dependents of Airmen and Guardians.

Founded by Colonel Richard Ernest Evans daughter, Barbara Evans Kinnear, this fund has been supported in part by the sales of the book he started and she completed after his death, Richard Eager – A Pilot’s Story from Tennessee Eagle Scout to General Montgomery’s "Flying Fortress,” published in July 2021.

Barbara selected AFAS as the recipient of book sale profits in part because our mission to help Airmen and Guardians when they need us most felt like the right way to honor her father's memory. She fondly recalls her father's appreciation of and commitment to the ground crews and the range of staff that he depended on to complete his missions safely, and likes the idea of "Airmen helping Airmen and Guardians."

You can read more about Colonel Richard Ernest Evans' life and legacy on our website.

Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the book!
